BEING A DOCTOR : A LIFE DEDICATED TO THE WELL-BEING OF OTHERS. অন্যায় যে করে আর অন্যায় যে সহে, তব ঘৃণা তারে যেন তৃণসম দহে। As heroes are not born, doctors too have to make themselves worthy to be called one. Their lives and profession is a calling, driven by divine impulse, a selfless act dedicated to the well-being of others ! However the seed of their worthiness starts to bloom from the moment they are conceived in their mother's womb. Just as the seed of a Banyan tree only can give rise to another Banyan tree, it's their worthy parents who can produce doctors. Being a doctor involves many sacrifices which only my fellow doctor friends can appreciate. Their profession is noble because what they do is absolutely priceless and cannot be bought by money in any way whatsoever and by anybody else whomsoever. To doctors their work is a condensed spirituality, a meditation, a harbinger of happiness and good health to their patients. Doctors are perfectionists and though they are considered as God by some of their grateful patients, they know from the bottom of their hearts that it's their patients whom they consider as their God ! Their selfless sacrifice starts from the moment they are born being offered culture, tradition, reformating sacrament and education in the real sense from their revered parents. They continue to carry on this torch of sacred flame throughout their lives, sacrificing their valuable time, family lives, blood and sweat of courage, bravery and martyrdom in the face of adversity, paltry remuneration and even aggressive terrorism on behalf of some patients and party and some authorities ! They still continue with their work, thier only God ! They harbor no expectations and wishes from life except the well-being of their patients. Sometimes they burn the midnight oil days in and days out, not only in their student life but later as well just for the sake of their patients ! They remain totally unbiased whether their patients come from a sound socioeconomic background or not, or they have any sort of religious, political or celebrity affiliation ---- the treatment is the same for all ! It's high time I should caution the responsible ( or irresponsible ? ) authorities concerned that all these are divine qualities, and we doctors are healers and any person or authority who doesn't respect TIME the HEALER and DOCTORS as well, are actually doing nothing but digging their own graves ! Doctors are more than Angels, they are KARMAYOGIS and if the authorities remain idle when it is needed to ACT UPON, then it's blasphemy !!! We doctors have the strength of knowledge and wisdom within us and therefore the society cannot afford to look down upon us ! And whoever marked us as demons or Asurs are nothing but demons themselves from the depths of Hell and eternity will be a curse for them. How can these insufferable, cowardly, spineless creatures even call themselves human beings ? They are nothing but traitors ! As doctors we are SELF actualised, useful to the society and occupy the apex of the pyramid of Abraham Maslow's ( American psychologist ) theory of hierarchy of social needs, along with universal love !!! A doctor's life is an ideal inspiration for worthy persons to emulate ! Ask anybody, would you like your children to be doctors ? A vast majority will say YES. Remember a few exceptions, only prove the rule ! Let this write-up be more than a protest, let this be a campaign, let this be a calling ! I hail you doctors from all corners of West Bengal; --- ARISE, THY KINGDOM COMETH !!! পুরাতন যত গ্লানি, ধুয়ে ফেল আজ, হে বীর, এসেছে যে বৈশাখের হাতছানি। এ যে নয় কালবৈশাখীর ঝড়, চরম বিপ্লব তব বলিদানের পর। সহিব না মোরা স্বৈরশাসন নিপীড়ন, যখন মোদের অন্তরাত্মা স্বাধীন, বিহঙ্গসম বন্ধনহীন। হে মানবজাতির পরিত্রাতা চিকিৎসক, সবার উপরে তুমিই সত্য তাহার উপরে নাই। তাই লও মন্ত্র, মাভৈঃ, তোমারই রাজত্ব আসিছে এইবার, করো যোগদান হয়ে নির্ভয়। Below, my picture in the operation theatre.
